PLAIN AIR/2019

Around 1830 a group of French painters left Paris to take refuge around the small village of Barbizon as a form of retreat and an attitude of open opposition to the current system. They analysed nature and its representation with a critical eye, carrying out a romantic study, which was characterised by its almost exclusive specialisation in the landscape and its direct study of nature. They took notes in the open air to later make definitive works in the workshop.

During the late 1860s, the painters of Barbizon caught the attention of the younger generation of French artists studying in Paris. Several of those artists visited the Fontainebleau Forest to paint from nature, among them Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Alfred Sisley and Frédéric Bazille, 5 painters who in the 1870s developed impressionism, taking Barbizon's work manual to its extreme in practice, that is to say, it was not enough to sketch and then finish the work in the studio, but it was necessary to paint the whole picture in "plein air" (open air). cites Francastel, Pierre (1970). History of French Painting. On this occasion, today after 150 years of the Barbizon School, four artists from the central area moved in the autumn of 2017 to the town of Puerto Tranquilo, Aysén Region to experience an artistic residency.  The fascination for this territory has to do with
to be in a pristine place, like a white cloth,
a painting for the photographer, because the extremes of our country are still semi-unexplored territories.
The nature is presented as a poetic mystery, light and
shadows create a magical atmosphere. As in the photographic Pictorialism of 1900, I propose to deepen the relations and concepts of painting and photography.
The light box brings to the present the light component of
photography and contrasts two ways of presenting oneself in the
horizontal and vertical space. "Mention apart is the work of Carolina Oltra, which presents us with a series of works among which are undoubtedly two large-format photographs of southern landscape in which the chromatic handling approaches them to a pictorial eye, which in both cases are intervened with gold foil and a plate that puts them in a state of work-document as a nineteenth-century piece, appealing to what will disappear as landscape "SER ARTE de Carlos J. This artistic residency was an inspiring chain and the beginning of the generation of works with an ecological and nostalgic critique.  Art Work  and Photography

Alrededor de 1830 un conjunto de pintores franceses, dejaron París para refugiarse en torno al pequeño pueblo de Barbizon como una forma de retiro y una actitud de abierta oposición al sistema vigente. Analizaban con ojo crítico la naturaleza y su representación, realizando un estudio romántico, que se caracterizaba por su especialización casi en exclusiva del paisaje y su estudio directo del natural. Tomaban apuntes al aire libre para después realizar obras definitivas en el taller.

Durante los últimos años de la década de 1860, los pintores de Barbizon captaron la atención de la generación más joven de artistas franceses estudiantes en París. Varios de esos artistas visitaron el Bosque Fontainebleau para pintar del natural, entre ellos Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Alfred Sisley y Frédéric Bazille, 5​ pintores que en la década de 1870 desarrollaron el impresionismo, llevando a su extremo en la praxis el manual de trabajo de Barbizon, es decir, no bastaba con bocetar y luego acabar la obra en el estudio, sino que era necesario pintar todo el cuadro en «plein air» (al aire libre). cita  Francastel, Pierre (1970). Historia de la Pintura Francesa. En esta ocasión, hoy después de 150 años de  la Escuela de Barbizon, cuatro artistas de la zona central se trasladaron el otoño del 2017 a la localidad de Puerto Tranquilo, Región de Aysén para experimentar una residencia artística.  La fascinación por este territorio tiene que ver con
encontrarse en un lugar prístino, cómo una tela en blanco,
una pintura para el fotógrafo, porque los extremos de nuestro país son territorios aún semi-inexplorados.
La naturaleza se presenta como un misterio poético, la luz y
sombras crean una atmósfera mágica. Tal como en el Pictorialismo fotográfico del 1900, propongo profundizar en las relaciones y los conceptos de la pintura y la fotografía.
La caja de luz , trae al presente el componente lumínico de
la fotografía y contrapone dos formas de presentarse en el
espacio horizontal y vertical. "Mención aparte es la obra de Carolina Oltra, la cual nos presenta una serie de obras entre las que destaca sin duda dos fotografías de paisaje austral de gran formato en las cuales el manejo cromático las aproxima a un ojo pictórico, qué en ambos casos están intervenidas con lamina dorada y una placa que las pone en estado de obra-documento cual pieza decimonónica, apelando a lo que desaparecerá como paisaje " SER ARTE de Carlos J. Nuñez.

Esta Residencia Artística fue cadena inspiradora y el comienzo de la generación de obras con una crítica ecológica y nostálgica.
